Blogging from the VM

Ok, so here is the situation. I have a Windows 7 laptop running 64 bit. I installed VM Ware Server, and then installed Ubuntu 9. I am now blogging from the VM. I am ready to download and install the Android Software Developer kit!

Ubuntu install successful

Say what you will about Open Source operarting systems, but you would be hard prcssed to find an easier OS to install than Ubuntu.

The install took about 25 minutes. I need to test network connectivity. I bridged the NIC card so hopefully I am all set to download and install the Android SDK.

VM Server is up and running. it kept crashing and I think I am all set now.

I am getting ready to install Ubuntu 9.0 and then I will install the Android SDK. Got one thing done today. ……

Development for Android - Step One: VM Ware Server

The phone runs Android which is based off of Linux. The SDK does not support Windows. Only Mac and Linux is supported. Ubuntu is preferred.
I have to see if my 5 year old HP can support running VM Ware Server. Then I will have to build the Ubuntu VM image and get it working.

I wish it worked on Windows, but I was looking at expanding my Linux skills. I have a little ways to go.

Purpose of Blog

I am going to say this right now. I am a PC (Microsoft). I have used MS all my life. Even though I have played around with Linux, Android is my first experience in seen it used everyday.

I can not lie. The iPhone may be sexy and Microsoft have been the first on the block, but to date Android on my wife's phone as exceeded my expectations.

It is my intention to record my wife's experiences with the DROID. I intend to download the Android SDK and give it a whirl.

My wife is not a techie or geek. She is a woman who wants her information on demand, and at this time the DROID is the only platform that could easily provide her information when she wants it.

To me, this marks the advent of clould computing for mass consumption. Give her a web browser and K Possible can plan activities, write docuements, share photos and videos, and get where she needs to go.

This should be fun.
